This DATAETHICS school gave 26 students from 9 Eurolife partner institutions representing 20 different nationalities a unique opportunity to attend the 5-day program to debate on the significance of coupling ethical with scientific considerations of the curation and handling of Biomedical Big Data in learning structures and learn about the latest trends in data science and bioinformatics.
The 26 students of 3 academic levels – bachelor, master and PhD – attended daily lectures by leading and established cross-disciplinary experts in ethics and biomedicine from Eurolife partner institutions and external speakers. The expertise of the speakers to the DATAETHICS Summer School 2022 covered a broad spectrum of research and application interests from bioethics, health policy, AI and social studies of medicine, to cutting-edge genomics and analysis of large heterogeneous high-throughput data-sets. Grouped in transnational teams, for 5 days of the course students elaborated the dilemma story based on a real-life scenario, which they were presented with on day 1 of the school.

To further encourage interactive approach to the ethical dilemma, the organisers incorporated an innovative interactive activity called: World Café organized in the framework of group sessions. The World Café was moderated by   trainers on Values and Knowledge Education (VaKE), who of which represent Association for Values and Knowledge Education (AVaKE). The VaKE trainers also offered a profiled training on VaKE to students and speakers in the course of the school.
