This event stands as a testament to the commitment of the DATAETHICS Consortium, its collaboration with esteemed experts, and its dedication to advancing ethical discourse in the era of Biomedical Big Data.

One of the critical challenges has been the absence of comprehensive and standardized training tools and educational resources that cover all facets of Big Data generation and handling. The recognition of this gap emphasized the profound ethical implications associated with BBD.

The event held on May 11, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in addressing the ethical dimensions of Biomedical Big Data. It underscored the urgency of the matter, emphasizing the need for comprehensive training and ethical considerations. Furthermore, the Eurolife consortium’s commitment to an interdisciplinary and transnational approach, as demonstrated through the DATAETHICS project, showcases a promising path forward in managing and interpreting BBD in an evolving landscape.

Background story:

This problem of inadequate training and resources has been widely acknowledged, prompting the Eurolife Network to assert that it can only be effectively tackled at its core. The proposed solution involves the implementation of intensive interdisciplinary and intercultural training programs targeted at the emerging generation of life and medical scientists, whether in academic or industrial contexts.

Eurolife Network, renowned for its cross-border strategic partnerships with leading universities across Europe, views its interdisciplinary and transnational approach as the most optimal strategy for comprehensively interpreting and managing BBD. This approach not only accounts for technological advancements but also incorporates considerations of cultural, legal, and social diversity in the context of BBD.

Under the auspices of its Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project, DATAETHICS, the Eurolife consortium has actively developed a range of tools and strategies designed to address these challenges. These initiatives embrace an international, interdisciplinary, and multicultural approach, drawing upon the collective expertise of partner institutions and industry stakeholders. Notable among these innovations is the VaKE (Value-Added Knowledge Exchange) method, which amalgamates summer and winter schools, E-learning courses, transferable education and training guides, as well as digital certification through open badge awards.
